Grilling in the rain
Yeah, I had another wild hair yesterday. I cooked on my grill in the drivin' rain. I guess y'all can tell by now that I'm a grilling fanatic, har har har!! Besides-which, I had these chicken boobs marinading since yesterday morning, and they just *wouldn't be the same* on the ol' George Foreman. It was an interesting operation, almost needed 3 hands: standing there, holding the deck umbrella with 1 hand and operating the utensils w/ the other. Just lighting the charcoal was an art in itself. Yeah, gas grills are more convenient, but nothing beats charcoal flavor --'specially if you add mesquite chips or used Jim Beam barrel bungs as well. I also use a "charcoal chimney", available from Home Depot: it's a cylinder of sheet-metal w/ holes in the side and a screen in the bottom. Just stuff a couple of crumpled newspaper sheets in the bottom, pour in desired amt. of charcoal in the top, and light the paper. Eliminates that smelly ol' lighter fluid, and the charcoal's ready faster too. :-)
